vaca, sort of
August 31st, 2009
So we are off to the Hamptons for a week as of tomorrow, Tuesday. September 1st. I would say it’s a vacation but I will be shooting so not a true vacation for me, but it will be for Conner and that’s the most important thing. I look forward to shooting my families on the beach. Tough job right? Spending time with some wonderful families along the shores of the Atlantic – I love this part of my job.
The weather forecast looks pretty darn good and I’m keeping my fingers crossed it stays that way. I will post a TON of photos once I return to make of for the lack there-of this week and last. Hope everyone enjoys the last week of summer.
Here’s to playing with the boys poolside, making smores, boardgames, evening walks along the beach, grilling, shopping at all the awesome produce stands, drinking margs, eatin’ lots of guacamole, getting tan, reading my book and several good shoots.
paperless post

Recently I was at a luncheon and someone told me about Paperless Post, a website that sends out invitations. It’s similar to evite but actually sends traditional invitations and announcements via email, think custom online stationery, similar to something you might pick out at a Kate’s Paperie. You design the invitation, actually buy the stamps and send them off to your friends and family. Afterwards you can of course track and manage your guest list. If you are lucky enough to be on the guest list, a personalized animated invitation appears in your inbox. Genius, especially in this economy. We plan to have a holiday party this year, the perfect opportunity to give Paperless Post a test run.

It’s Friday! Here’s a little something to keep you healthy over the weekend – pea dip with parmesan by Mark Bittman. I made it yesterday and it’s a very nice alternative to the usual fattening dips. My neighbor Sloane introduced me to it and I’m glad she did. Serve with pita chips and enjoy!

Stephanie and I went to high school together. Her sister and my brother even shared a steamy romance back in 5th grade, so I was very excited when she called me to ask if I could photograph her and her daughter Alexa. We met at Gedney park on a humid August morning but managed to keep cool and keep Alexa entertained while I shot away. Stephanie came very prepared with new toys and outfits. The two of them have a very special bond, as most moms and daughters do, but theirs is a little different. Stephanie is one good momma. I was so impressed by her patience and gentleness. The best part of my job is the peek I get into family dynamics and the hope of capturing some of that goodness on film, or I should say, on card. Thank you Stephanie and Alexa for a lovely shoot. I think we got alot of goodness.

I fell in love with this family. They were wonderful to meet and photograph. We started off in Central Park and then headed to their apartment once Jake grew tired. When I saw their bedroom my heart skipped a beat. They had a gorgeous color scheme (orange and grey, yumm) and GREAT light. Dad turned on some music (Coldplay, if I remember correctly) and we shot away. Music, good light, pretty bed, gorgeous family and one happy baby makes for great photos. Thank you Kelleys. You were a delight.

They are so cheesy but I cant help myself
August 12th, 2009
from playing them over and over when I run. There are two songs, I Gotta Feeling by The Black Eyed Peas and (this one is really bad), You Know You Want Me by Pitbull. For some reason they get me going and since I need a little of that lately, they are on my work out mix. They remind me of songs we would have all chanted to, hands in the air, beer running down the arm, during my college years at a Syracuse bar.
Since those days are clearly over now they are my running soundtrack. I ran yesterday evening (which is my 45 minute haven these days) and listened to them on repeat a few times. Yes, you read me correctly, I ran. I’m back working out after a 8ish month hiatus. No I wasn’t one of those pregger ladies who pranced around in their work out clothes with their belly neatly tucked into a cute work out top. Nope, not even close. The only exercise this body got was the lifting of the fork from the plate to my mouth and I guess that’s why I gained a whoppin’ 52 LBs. That’s a toddler, actually come to think of it, that’s two toddlers. Holy crap. I was carrying around two Conners. No wonder the woman who tweezes my eyebrows, when I went for my last appointment before Ty arrived, asked me if I was going to give birth on her table. I was breathing heavily due to the 52 pounds I packed on, 9 of which were my unborn son. Can you imagine, giving birth at the salon? A salon baby. Some women give birth in cars but I wonder if anyone has gone into labor on the waxing table? How lovely. Atleast my eyebrows would have looked good.
ANYWAYS, a few photos from my run last night taken with my Iphone. It is SO green here from all the rain we’ve gotten. I feel like I’m running through never ending fields of green blankets. It’s an awesome way to end my day. Here’s to running to cheesy music.

Now I have to get back to my editing, which will be conducted to some old school Blind Melon.

I arrived at their house and couldn’t wait to start shooting. The house picture perfect, their were cupcakes to decorate and a gorgeous bed to jump around on. We shot, and shot and shot away – every where I turned was another beautiful background to shoot against. Mom wanted mostly photos of her and children and of the entire family. She is a photographer herself (ahhh… the pressure!) and rarely is in any of their family photos. Ohhhhhhh how I can relate. Thank you Tsai family. Enjoy!

Alex is heading into her Senior year of high school. How exciting! What a knock out she is and the most polite and well mannered teen-ager I’ve come across in a long time. Her family lived next door to my husband’s family as he was growing up. They are so lovely. I can’t say enough wonderful things about them. Mom is a riot. She cracked me up through out our shoot and probably did a good job of embarrassing Alex a little. Teddy, her younger brother, joined us later and did the same. Thank you for a wonderful shoot on your gorgeous property. I’m looking forward to our next get together.
