Bentley Waters Photography

July 31st, 2008

A few weeks ago I photographed Maggie’s 40th Birthday on the rooftop of the Gramercy Park Hotel. What a great bunch of friends and family. I was very touched by this group. They made me think alot about my friends and family and how much I appreciate them. Maggie’s husband Bob did an amazing job planning this surprise party. Every detail was perfect, including the Maggie doll awards. Very clever. And to top it off, Bob and I were both very surprised to hear we are both Syracuse Alumni. Thanks Bob and go SU.

MIA

July 26th, 2008

I’ve been MIA this past week. It flew by and before I knew it the week was over. Six shoots later (by Sunday) here I am. Pooped. Anyways, we are out in the Hamptons. FINALLY Friday was the perfect weather day. Just gorgeous. We deserved it after all that humidity. We’re hanging poolside and were going to the fair between shoots today. I will post lots of photos this upcoming week. Promise.

In the meantime I will leave you with Ali Edwards‘ fabulous blog. She is a mom, artist, designer, scrapbooker and inspiration to all.

Have a great weekend and I will be in touch next week.

conner and his mower

July 18th, 2008

These were taken while we were in NJ for the month of June on one of the afternoons Conner and I spent at the park. His favorite toy is his lawn mower. He pronounces it, “mowwww-aaaa.” For awhile it went everywhere he did. Sometimes he even felt it was necessary to hold it while he was strapped in his car seat. Since, he has moved on a bit but it’s still a favorite. Now if only it really worked.

Have a great weekend!

more from the beach

July 17th, 2008

We started off at the house and then headed to the beach. It was a very foggy morning. I love it when the beach is full of fog and feels a little dreamlike. The Lamonts were a new client and were wonderful. Mom is from Brazil and has this gorgeous accent. The children were little hams, especially Sophie. They both lit up once we got to the beach. I love when that happens. Thanks for a great morning in the fog. I hope to see you again.

The beach

July 14th, 2008

sessions have begun. This session was the first from this season. It felt good to photograph on the beach again and even better when you head back with a “return” client. This was my third shoot with the wonderful Hoh family. They have two adorable girls who always make me laugh. It was so cool to see how the younger now feeds off her older sister. She waits for her to make a move and then follows. Too cute.

Here Audrey is waiting for Sophie’s cue.

MPD

July 14th, 2008

The meatpacking district is by far one of my favorite NYC neighborhoods to shoot in. The Ludwigs were all about exploring this area with me and were great models. The neighborhood changes every time I visit. We found lots of new backgrounds and props like this wall…

and these pigs…

I love all their expressions, especially Zachary’s.

she was the happiest little baby.

It was a great afternoon! Thank You.

thoughts

July 13th, 2008

It’s a gorgeous Sunday. The weather is perfect here and I’m looking forward to seeing my 3 best friends from high school this evening. I cant wait to catch up over a glass of wine (or two or three). Conner and Brendan are in the Hamptons and I stayed behind to get some work done. I cant remember the last time I had a night to myself.

I miss the city a little bit. I drove in last night to photograph this awesome birthday party on the roof of the Gramercy Park Hotel. It was a gorgeous summer night. The energy in the city, especially at night, is something you can’t find anywhere else. It’s addicting and contagious. I thought alot about the last 10 years we lived there and all the wonderful nights we shared with our friends. Brendan and I moved to the city after graduating from Syracuse with many of our friends who graduated with us, as well as a few from our home towns. Those years with our friends were some of the best years of our lives. I’m so glad we lived there and enjoyed those fun-filled, crazy, memorable years together.

The party I photographed last night was for a lovely lady who turned 40. Her husband (who coincidentally also graduated from Syracuse) threw her the perfect surprise party on the roof of the GPH under the stars. Their energy and happiness made me think alot about my friends and family and how much I appreciate them. I will post more about the party when the photos are ready.

I love the new Duffy CD, Rockferry.

I feel very blessed to have a new home, a wonderful husband and a beautiful son.

I miss my family in California. My dad and brother come to visit over the next month and I CANT WAIT.

Now, off to get some work done.

finally

July 11th, 2008

I’m back and have a few minutes to post. The last week flew by. Still getting settled in our new house and trying to catch up on proofing and orders.

The Lawlers are wonderful clients of mine. They were one of my first clients when I started this business. I first photographed Cassie when she was about 1 1/2. It’s amazing to see how much she has grown and now she has a little brother Luke, who is just as adorable as she is. As you can see from their flags they were preparing for the 4th of July. It was an all American shoot complete with flags and popsicles. Thanks guys for being such good sports considering the humidity. The popsicles were a well deserved finale. I look forward to seeing you in the burbs.

And for another blog I like, since I haven’t recommended one in awhile… www.dooce.com. Hilarious and addicting. She is a super smart and sharp writer with an awesome sense of humor. And what I find most amazing is her blog supports her family. Impressive.

we’ve moved

July 3rd, 2008

We are finally somewhat settled. Today is my first day with INTERNET. Ahhhhhhh. We’re adjusting. Sometimes it’s a little weird not being in the city but it’s a good weird. We’re still figuring out where everything is, how to work the garage, learning the rules of garbage pick-up, getting parking permits, storing things in our ATTIC and driving EVERYWHERE. We actually went to Cosco. What? Cosco? You mean we can buy more than 4 rolls of toilet paper at the same time and we don’t have to store it in the same closet with all of our coats, Conner’s hanging clothes, 5 umbrellas, my letterhead, a file cabinet, an array of light bulbs, a yoga mat and the Christmas decorations. Heaven. Conner is adjusting well. Here are a few photos of him in the front yard last night in his jammies. Again, heaven.

We’re off to the beach this weekend. I have 4 shoots and in between we hope catch some rays. Happy 4th of July everyone! I’ll be back next week.
