Oliver
July 31st, 2007
He was barely 2 weeks old and I got so many smiles from little Oliver. He slept through the majority of the shoot but every once in awhile would flash his a little grin. Congratulations Lyss. I was honored to have met your new little guy. He is such a love. Thank you! xoxo
teddy
July 30th, 2007
Teddy at 2 months. He was like a little old man, an old soul. I loved how he gazed into my camera, such a good little model. It was great to meet you Melinda. I hope to photograph you and Teddy again some time. Enjoy the rest of your summer.
the birthday
July 26th, 2007
When I received the call from Michael and Stephanie’s mother to book me for their joint birthday I was truly honored. I cried when she explained to me her son Michael was in remission from leukemia and they were having a birthday party for their daughter Stephanie who was turning 3 AND Michael who was turning 4 and a half. Micheal hadn’t had a birthday party before due to his illness. Being called upon to document such a special day, I don’t think honored is a big enough word to to express how I felt. It’s jobs like these that make me appreciate my job tremendously. The day was beautiful, the family, Michael and Stephanie. . . Danielle, you are the sweetest. Hope you enjoy the photos and please stay in touch.
minimasters
July 26th, 2007
I met both of these ladies awhile back, when they were both pregnant. Marie-France with her first, Ahn with her third. They are the founders of a great kids/family club down in Tribeca, MiniMasters. I love the vibe, very down-to-earth and comfortable, just as they are.
Thank you Ahn and Marie-France for a fun, easy and relaxed shoot. You’re a pleasure to work with and I was honored to have met both of your beautiful families. Look forward to seeing you soon.
Summer days
July 24th, 2007
Last week we moved into our summer house. Spent a lot of time (in between shoots!) pool side and at the beach. Sammy’s Beach is around the corner and we love it. Very quiet and low key. Our type of place. There was an amazing sunset on Saturday night. We were on our way home from a clambake and I couldn’t help but snap a few of the sky. I’m not one to take cheesy sunset shots but that night I couldn’t resist. The scenery is breathtaking no matter how many times you’ve seen it. It’s going to be a good August.
almost quittin time
July 13th, 2007
It’s Friday. Time for the weekend. Our trip to Santa Fe was postponed due to bad weather the night we were scheduled to leave. : ( Hopefully we’ll to head out in August.
I’m photographing a birthday party this Sunday that I’m really looking forward to. The little boy is in remission from leukemia. I was so honored to get a phone call from his mom and to be asked to document the day. I’ll write more about his special day when I post the photos.
Here are couple of Conner from the past week. I broke out some film and used my Hasselblad for the first time in awhile. I love the square photos it takes. There is something about it… Enjoy your weekend.
Gregory Crewdson
July 12th, 2007
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Gregory Crewdson’s work, I highly suggest checking it out. His new body of work Beneath the Roses looks pretty amazing. He spends months working on each image, sketching designs/ideas, scouting locations, working with 6 figure budgets, a famous lighting director and crews of over 50 people. Once he picks the perfect spot, they then spend days lighting the shot/set. After the image is captured on 8×10 film, several negatives are pieced together in post production (digitally obviously), in order to achieve one completely in focus shot, which takes another few months. Crazy.
Even if you aren’t a photo buff, if you have the chance to see Crewdson’s work or even read about it, do so. This month in PDN there is an article that describes how he works his magic. His process is so impressive.
He is repped by the Luhring Augustine gallery here in NYC. I’ll keep an eye out to see if they (or any other gallery/museum) will exhibit Mr. Crewdson’s new work anytime soon and will keep you all posted. I could go on and on for days about how unique, amazing, intense, laborious, magical (you get the idea) his work is but I’ll spare you and let you hopefully see for yourself.
Beach Girl
July 12th, 2007
Alexa lasted about 2 minutes before she was soaked from head to toe. I think she loves the beach more than I do which is pretty hard to beat. The last time I photographed her she was barely crawling. Things have obviously changed. She kept me pretty busy, chasing her around. There is quite a selection so I’m posting several pictures. I’m having trouble choosing my favorites.
Soon Alexa is going to have a new brother or sister and I look forward to photographing the two of them. Thanks Mendez family. Enjoy the pics and the rest of your summer! Feel good Maria.
A little Vaca
July 10th, 2007
Going on a little Vaca. Taking Conner to see grandpa (my dad) in Santa Fe. I will post several pics once I return on Sunday. He has started to crawl. Life will never be the same.
Bo Bo
July 10th, 2007
I love photographing newborns and Bowden was such a sweetheart. It was a beautiful, coolish day so we snapped a few outdoors. The cool air in their picture-perfect backyard put him right to sleep. Hmmm…he was so peaceful. It was a great to meet you both, Kathryn and Bowden. Thank you! And thank you Lisa and Jeff for buying them the gift certificate.
